Apocyclops panamensis is the most superior pelagic copepod species for reef tanks. Ideal for feeding both corals, planktivorous fish and as excellent detritivores.
These medium-sized copepods (0.6–0.9 mm) are active free swimmers that naturally inhabit coral colonies and mid-water zones, making them highly accessible to sessile coral polyps and actively hunting reef fish alike. Their planktonic behavior bridges the ecological gap between benthic Tisbe and surface-dwelling Tigriopus species.
Well suited for mixed reef aquariums, Apocyclops readily colonizes coral branches, macroalgae, and moderate-flow areas throughout the tank. As a tropical species, they thrive in standard reef temperatures between 74–82°F, maintaining consistent activity and reproduction. Their moderate size and controlled swimming behavior make them an exceptional live food source for corals, offering easier capture than faster surface copepods while delivering greater nutritional value than smaller benthic varieties.
Each culture arrives actively reproducing, enriched with live phytoplankton, and ready to establish and spread naturally throughout your reef ecosystem.
